About Us
Teesside Fencing Club has been open since March 2009. We rather optimistically open twice a week at Middlesbrough and Skelton.
We now regularly have 25 plus members attending per week.
The Skelton Venue is now well established with 15+ members attending regularly. We also have members from the Whitby area traveling through.
We soon will be relocating to the Southlands Sports Centre. Ormesby, Middlesbrough.
Aims
Our aims is to increase membership of all ages. Juniors at Acklam are using the mini-fence equipment using plastic mask and swords. They learn the basic elements of fencing in a fun way. From about 10 yrs youngsters progress to steel weapons. Courses in fencing are continually running at both venues.
The club is steadily progressing and we are now seeing a few members entering their first competitions. This is an area we need to develop and we hope to see members of all ages joining British Fencing and competing in regional and national competitions.
Supporting Bodies
The club would not be where it is today without the support from our local councils. With the help of Middlesbrough Borough Council we would not have the equipment we have enabling beginners to fence without having to purchase equipment. They have also funded the mini-fence equipment for our under 10 yrs. Recently we have taken delivery of 2 conductive pistes, that all our members are are using weekly.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council have also supported the club in with venue hire.
